Basic Urdu Legal terms used in Land Law
In this article, we will discuss the most useful Urdu terms used in the Land Law and Land revenue.
Abadi Deh:- site of the village where predominantly people live, means a residential area of the village.
Adna Malik:- inferior owner.
Banjar:- A land, which is not cultivated by anyone, means uncultivated land, waste land.
Banjar jadid:- A land which is not cultivated for continuous four harvests though it was cultivated earlier.
Batai:- Rent taken by a division of the crop, mode of assessment of land revenue by division of produce between the cultivator and the state.
Barani:- A land which is depend on rainfall.
Bigha:- a measure of area.
Biswa:- one twentieth of a Bigha.
Biswansi:- One-twentieth of a Biswa.
Chahi:- a land irrigated from a Well.
Chahi Nahri:- a land irrigated partly from Well and partly from Canal.
Chaukidar:- Village watchman.
Girdawar :- A kanungo or superior of Patwari.
Girdavari:- inspection of the harvest.
Intkal:- statement of land transfers.
Jamabandi:- A register of holdings of owners and tenants showing land held by each and amounts payable as rent, land revenue, and cesses.
Jangal:- an area of uncultivated land covered with brushwood and small trees.
Kanal:- One eighth of an acre, a unit of a land area.
Kashtkar:- cultivator, agriculturist, farmer.
Karguzari:- out turn of work.
Khaka:- rough plan.
Kharif:- autumn season harvest is sown in April-May before the commencement of rains and reaped in October – November.
Khasra:- it is a list of fields, or field register.
Khasra No.:- Serial or reference number of a plot or filed.
Khasra girdawari:- it is a register of inspection of harvest.
Khatauni :- list of holding of tenants. Holding slips prepared at re-measurement.
Khewat:- it is a list of the owner’s holding.
Khewat No. :- it is the number of owner’s holding which should be arranged in order what’s the name of the owner is giving in the village.
khud kasht:- A land cultivated by the owner himself.
Killa Bandi:- rectangular measurement, demarcation of land in Killas.
Lambardar:- a person who is the headman of the village.
Latha Girdhari:- a copy of patwari’s map on cloth means a cloth copy of the map.
Moza:- village.
Mutation: – The mutation is the change of title from one person to another when the property is sold or transferred. It is the transfer or change of title in the records of the local municipal body for the concerned property.
Nahari:- A irrigated land from Canal.
Parat Pawar:- patwari copy of the new settlement record of land.
Parat Sarkar:- government copy of new settlement of Record of land.
Rabi:- the harvest of spring.
Samlat:- common land free for use to all people.
Sijra Axe ( map of the village) :- a piece of cloth on which the village map is drawn showing the position and boundaries of every field is known as Sijra Axe.
Waaris:- a successor.
Zamindar :- land owner of the land.
Hibba( gift):- whenever gift someone a part of complaint land, the motivation is called hibba or gift. the detail of the person is recorded to whom land has been gifted.
Lal Kitab :- it is also known as the village notebook. but it has valuable information regarding crop grown in the state, soil classification, area under different crops, land use, transfer in land, wells and other means of irrigation in the village and revision of other records, which is the main source of data to this Kitab. These Lal Kitab are prepared at the village, Tehsil and district level badminton in Patwari office, kanungo, and Sadar kanungo respectively.
